“When you feel the urge to judge someone, judge that urge.” – Anonymous

From “The Human Condition: A User’s Manual” by Arnold Kunst
Like you, the last lesson I must learn in life is how to dispose of recrimination. All things being equal, the need for self-forgiveness will be the greatest just before death because at that time I'll have a whole lifetime's screw-ups on the scorecard. Put it this way: God longs with a yearning that transcends space and time that I accept His prodigal forgiveness. And that simply cant happen unless/until I offer/accept my own forgiveness. The only ones who complete the trip to heaven successfully are the ones who travel light. And that means jettisoning the garbage of recrimination that heaven would find utterly intolerable.

‘The dream of the Confederacy started out with an expectation of nobility and ended cloaked in revisionist elitism. Both dreams contain fantastic, almost unbelievable, stories. But the story of what really happened is far more intriguing – and useful. If we are to learn from the history of men, we must be frank about their humanity. Those who led the Confederacy were not gods. They were men, sometimes bold and sometimes weak, sometimes hateful and sometimes grand, sometimes selfish, not always sober. Together they formed an imperfect union, and together they destroyed it.’
- David Eicher

‘We would like to live as we once lived, but history will not permit it.’

"i never saw a swild thing feel sorry for itself." D. H. Lawrence

From “The Human Condition: A User’s Manual” by Arnold Kunst
No matter who you are, no matter where you've been, no matter where you’re going, no matter how you're going to get there, there are things in the way.  "Self pity" is such a pervasive and insidious disease that most of us, most of the time, see these things in the way as "obstacles". This in turn confirms our unconscious assumption that God is a sadist.  But sometimes I get the self-pity thing under control; sometimes I forget to feel sorry for myself (like "forgetting" to worry when I fall asleep at night) - and then "obstacles" become "opportunities". They're disguised, maybe, but I think that’s by design – it’s supposed to add to the excitement and wonder of Life.
